When a boxer is destined for greatness, hometown boxing fans better see their hometown hero before its too late because once they burst on the scene, home fights could be far and few between.
This could now be the case with 24-year-old Pittsburgh native Matt "Sweet Child" Conway who will be leaving the Pennsylvania/West Virginia region for the first time in his young career and make his debut on a national stage with a chance to introduce himself to the national boxing scene and media.
Conway, who is now under new management, is currently 17-0 with 7 of his victories coming by way of knockout.
Considered to be one of Pittsburgh's top prospect, Conway will look to pass the biggest test of his career tomorrow night in Reno, Nevada at the Reno Sparks Convention Center on the undercard of the Shakur Stevenson-Joet Gonzalez WBO featherweight title match.
Originally scheduled to fight Toledo, OH native Tyler McCreary, McCreary however recently decided to instead take a bout against 32-year-old former world champion Carl Frampton next month in Las Vegas.
With McCreary out of the picture, Conway will turn his attention to Francisco Esparza.
Esparza, 24, of Las Vegas is currently 9-1-1 with 3 of his victories coming by way of knockout and is coming off a loss to Aram Avagyan for the WBC International Silver Featherweight Title back in May at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
For Conway, this will be his first action since scoring a TKO victory over Francisco Medel (13-18) in June in Moundsville, WV.
ESPN+ will air tomorrow's undercards of the Stevenson-Gonzalez fight starting at 6:30 PM.
