Rosenberger Scores Victory in Pittsburgh

Danny Rosenberger of Niles has taken his share of lumps early in his career including being on the wrong end of controversial decisions to taking a fight on less than a weeks notice. 

This past Saturday however, Rosenberger put everything in the past and let his fists go for his four-round bout at the 152-pound weight limit against Bobby Osterrieder of Butler, PA.

The opening round was a pretty even until Rosenberger caught Osterrieder with a hard right in the rounds closing moments, a punch that set the tone for the next round.

Rosenberger applied the pressure in the second round knocking Osterrieder down twice, first with a nice combination upstairs after an initial hard right staggered Osterrieder and second with a brutal right to the body that caused a delayed knockdown.

"It felt amazing.  When you come to somebody's hometown you can't let the judges make the fight you have to take the fight to them" said Rosenberger of his impressive second round.

Despite appearing hurt, Osterrieder kept pressing and showed heart in the final two rounds of what turned out to be an entertaining fight.

"I did not want to be stupid and put myself in jeopardy," said Rosenberger of not finishing off an injured Osterrieder "I just wanted to pick my shots and be more active".

Rosenberger, 27, who won by a score of 39-35 on all three judges scorecards has now won his last two fights and improved his record to 2-3-2.

With the loss, Osterrieder, 28, fell to 1-1.

                          

Made Men Promotions Set For Two Winter Dates at Mountaineer Casino and Resort

Made Men Promotions will keep the professional boxing scene alive and well in the Pittsburgh Tri-State region as they will bring two shows to the Mountaineer Casino and Resort Ballroom this upcoming winter.

Joey Holt (8-0) of East Liverpool, Ohio will headline the first date, Feasts of Fists, which is slated for Thanksgiving Eve November, 22nd.

This will be the seventh time in his career that Holt, 32, has fought at the Mountaineer complex, having last fought there in September when he scored a knockout victory over Josh Fisher.

The second show, the first of 2018 for Made Men Promotions, being billed as Cupid's Knockouts, is scheduled for Saturday, February 10th.

Tickets, which start at $30 for both shows, can be purchased by visiting the Made Men Promotions website at www.mademenboxing.com.

First bell for both times is scheduled for 7:00PM with the doors opening at 5:00PM.

Recapping Youngstown Versus Italy

It was billed as Youngstown Boxing Italy, but the lone two Youngstown combatants slated to fight last night at the Covelli Centre were scratched from the event a title such as Pittsburgh Boxing Italy would have been more fitting.

With Brian Simms and Bryan Colon off the card, the collection of regional amateurs that was representing Youngstown was made up of mostly made up from the Pittsburgh area.

Kaleb Waggoner from Toronto, Ohio, a town located roughly 60 miles south of Youngstown, got the evening started by scoring the nights lone knockout at the 1:01 mark of the opening round.

Waggoner caught Antimo Lombardi with a right hook that stunned the young Italian before dropping him with a straight left that forced the referee in charge to call a halt to the bout.

The Youngstown-Regional team rattled off wins against the Italian team billed as Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro (the Golden Flames) in the opening five bouts before Jessica Palmieri scored a decision over Colleen Davis of Pittsburgh in a female bout that may have been the fight of the night.

The Italian team whose coaches included three-time Olympic medalist Roberto Cammarelle won four matches on the evening including the last match of the evening as Riccardo Valentino stayed busy enough to defeat Kiante Irving of Pittsburgh.

Though the event which was produced by the Hibernian Celtic Athletic Fund in collaboration with the Ray "Boom Boom' Mancini Foundation may have lacked talent from the Covelli Centre's backyard, the evening was full of great fights as Mancini looked on in attendance.  

Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro will now embark on the short trip to Pittsburgh for an event at the Grand Hall at the Priory on Monday, October 9th.
